Leon Bridges is the fifth face of CLASH 129.
For close to a decade, Leon Bridges has established himself as a forerunner of modern soul. The Grammy-winning artist not only disarms listeners with timeless songs imbued with the poetics of Otis Redding, but his ability to captivate an audience with primetime jam performances, sets him apart from the imitators.
Over a quick succession of albums, Bridges fashioned aural worlds redolent of the clear sky, desert expanse of the Deep South, flitting between balladic RnB, blues, psych-rock, gospel, country and more. Bridges found himself catapulted into new worlds, opening for Harry Styles in Mexico City, taking the stage in Japan at Fuji Rock, and even playing for Barack Obama at the White House.
On his first album in three years, the singer returns to himself and the people that made him. Bridges takes us back to his roots in Fort Worth, Texas, painting a vivid portrait of spiritual awakenings, home and belonging. It’s his most personal passion project yet; completely tied to his identity not only as a musician, but as an individual.
“The whole inspiration was returning to why people fell in love with me in the first place, without doing a repeat of ‘Coming Home,’” he says of his new era. “It’s just meaningful, honest music that is super soulful.”

But that’s not all. Between these pages you’ll experience the pop pedigree of JADE, enter Romy's club utopia, raid the archives with the elder statesmen of pop Bryan Ferry, and be introduced to trailblazer Kai-Isaiah Jamal‘s musical alias Kissin’ Teef. You’ll encounter the triumphant origin story of Thee Sacred Souls, the boundary-less jazz of Nubya Garcia, and the anthemic electronics of TSHA. You’ll also absorb life lessons from Bashy, become exposed to the searing truth of Jeshi, and much more.
